It has saved lives and ruined marriages, created a whole new dialect and made billions in profits for phone companies. But as the humble text message celebrates its 20th birthday, some wonder how much longer it will survive in a world of smartphones and all-you-can-eat data.

I like the way technology changes people's way of life and even governments/laws. In my country, the constitution had to be amended such that you can now be sued for sending any inappropriate text.

Text messages! Never liked them, god gave me the wrong shape fingers to text, and I've no idea what anyone's on about when you do get one!

I've noticed younger members of my family now use "text speak" on Facebook. It's like a foreign language!
