BBC News - Car crime victims 'financially penalised' by police claims

Has the World really gone mad? So a Police Officer is hurt in a car chase trying to recover a stolen car - the car is trashed , so you claim on your policy for a new car, bonus is affected & your a bit peeved - imagine your surprise to receive a summons against you ( not the git who stole the car!) because the officer got hurt in the chase - how is this so?????

It says in the report the thief is unlikely to have any assets, so why should your insurance policy cover the police? Why are they not covered whilst at work?

What should happen is the little sh1t that stole the car is sued by the police & have his benefits cut or made to work unpaid until his debt has been repaid - of course that wont happen because some idiot in Brussels says its against his Human Rights - he lost all those Rights (imho) the moment he stole the car & rammed the police car!!!!

Thoughts?

I completely agree! The world has gone mad. Surely a collision into a police car, which isn't the officers fault should have completely different effects to what it has. I repeat again, the world has gone mad!

It just baffles me - are the officers not covered under insurance for injuries at work?

I just dont get how they can sue the owners of the car when they arent even in it

So if the police accidently kill a pedestrian, whilst in pursuit of a stolen car, is the stolen car owners insurance liable? It wouldn't make much sense.

Thanks,
Barney

It doesn't make sense to me, surely the officers should be insured? Working as part of the law!?

There was an incident in the news recently where a police woman investigating a break in at a local garage, tripped on the kerb within the garage premises, and sued the garage owner for her injuries, as the garage forecourt was badly lit.

The news report then revealed the number of personal injury claims made by police officers against members of the public and victims of crime and the number was staggering and totaling
