I missed this one. So apparently Cornwall has been granted minority status under European Laws. No more pasty jokes, no more abuse of Cornish folk

Is it me or what a load of cobblers! So a long time ago, the Cornish were a proud Celtic Race. Then someone invented the motor car, roads, Pickfords and immigration. So who exactly in Cornwall today falls under these rules. So me and my family move to Cornwall and we had a child there, with no links to Cornwall, would our Cornish born child now be classed as a minority race?

Maybe I'm being too cynical, or is there more to it? Is this the first step to perceived devolution? Does this open the doors for other Counties?

At this rate, I won't be British or English, just a Warwickshirite

Do we have any Cornish members who can shed some light or opinions?

Trouble with those Cornish bods is that they can no longer afford what once used to be their own homes, its only the London city slickers who can do that now......

Thanks,

Hi

I'm Cornish, born in Cornwall EAST CORNWALL just before THEY made pregnant Mum's to be drive to Plymouth in Devon and have foreign kids .... Truro was too far and didn't want the extra work so for a long time people have been trying to establish their CORNISH identity.

Now recently a lot of news has been flooding in over the severe storms, eroding the coastline, destroying landmarks, devastating livelyhoods, and then the train tracks at DAWLISH cut us off.

But we made pasties and sent them to the needy in Somerset, farmers sent feed and tractors and manpower and we got on with it.

Cornwall was fishing and farming both have dramatically suffered, property is cheap enough that there are so many second homes in some villages it's killing the whole essence of what people bought into, tourism booms is hit booms it's like a roller coaster, the future..... hopefully this new move will help stabilize us, put us back on the map, promote Cornwall.... and so much more....

I actually lived in Callington, don't remember any of it as I was far to young at the time. I've no idea what Cornwall is like nowadays, it use to be a fab place, spent 2 weeks every year during the summer in my teens at Tregantle Fort, nice deserted beaches, rock pool fishing in Looe, deep sea fishing at Rame Head, building camp fires out of driftwood found on the beaches, probably not allowed to do any of that sort of stuff now. Oh how much I would love to go back and do all that again.....

Thanks,
Barney

I have a friend in Falmouth and she loves being from Cornwall...minority race however I'm not so sure!

NOTHING much has changed, you can still do all that, although some "up country" wiz takes the driftwood and makes it into something arty and sells it around the world for mega bucks. LOL

From what I can see, the English are a minority! My shop local newsagent is lativian, my loal supermarket is full of east european accents. Dont get me wrong, I'm  not racist, but when my folks were younger, it was asian this that and the other. Nothing changes, but cornsish as a minority race, come on

To be honest, going into a kebab shop on a Friday night and being served by a Englishman / woman would seem rather odd. I've no issues with being multicultural my issue is where certain areas are ghettoised. But as the Brits have in the past raped and pillaged more or less every country on the planet I'm not really sure if we have a right to complain....

Not sure about being a minority race here in Yorkshire? I do however know we are a strange breed, we don't care if the scots go it alone, the Irish may we'll follow and the welsh will in all likelihood continue to worry their sheep. However, if those southern softies try to stop me "eatin tripe and black puddin" there will be carnage tha-nos....

that there government only knows about the north of England since they discovered shale gas and fracking. Am gonna dig me-sen a pit int back gar-din.

I'm hoping anything that can help strengthened the Cornish identity and can market the Cornish brand and get us recognised in discussion marking in parliament, taking in our geographic location and cultural heritage has got to be a good thing, the discussions have gone on for a long time and this could really help the county which needs not only financial support but just to be back on the map as we are OPEN FOR BUSINESS.
