Its that time of year! Everyone loves the John Lewis adverts; the best way to start off the Christmas spirit. Won't be much longer now until the Christmas trees are going up and everyone is singing to the throwback Christmas songs from the 80's.

The John Lewis team have spent millions of pounds on this advert to promote it excessively, the whole Christmas campaign is said to be costing the company around £6 million pounds.

Each year the company works with a charity in order to raise awareness. This year they have used a dog called Buster and have used a #bustertheboxer in order to create a twitter trend in raising awareness for wildlife trusts. John Lewis want more children to be interested in animals and working with animals in order to improve their safety and to overall warn people of how some animals can be in great danger.

The customer director at John Lewis said:

"It really embraces a sense of fun and magic, reminding everyone what it feels to give the perfect gift at Christmas"

The first official TV airing of the advert will be on ITV at 9:15pm tonight. Hope everyone loves the advert and is as excited as me

It's far better than last year's offering.

Morrisons is quite good; young boy learning from Guinness Book of Records (always a good present for kids).  House of Fraser is just a re-hash of last year.  Aldi feature a carrot.

As for M&S, I felt underwhelmed when I saw it for the first time.  Perhaps it will grow on me, but doubt it.  Seems to sum up M&S at the moment!

Sentimental TV marketing claptrap, bahh humbug  It would be interesting if all the big stores published the ROI for these xmas campaigns. It must be viable for the annual xmas war of adverts, but I wonder how profitable? I would imagine John Lewis customers will already have their annual pilgrimage planned out to the xmas gift section, regardless of any adverts.

Or is it simply brand marketing, maybe reminding us who hasn't gone bust yet

I suppose as you get older you begin to see what the real meaning of Christmas actually is...... greed, debt, gluttony, drunkenness..... with the odd Christmas carol chucked in for good measure as this allows us to believe we're still practicing Christians albeit twice a year....Don't believe me, then take a look on Rightmove and see how many churches and chapels are up for sale with planning permission to convert into housing..... It's not as though we even have the New Year sales to look forward to anymore as the High Street seems to be having a permanent sale....

Thanks,
Barney

And Amazon has started Black Friday sale, apparently 12 days early......

oh gawd, now it will be Black November followed by gullible December

It's novelty now not see a sale of some description. Maybe that's a new USP, no sales here, be fleeced all year round

I quite liked the M&S advert, touched my heart- maybe that's just me though. Found it heart warming, everything Christmas related is always to do with Santa Clause- I like that they have spiced it up and introduced Mrs Clause

Can't remember the last time I sat and watched an advert.

Everything I watch is recorded normally and I zip through the ad's

The better half is out tonight - I have around 15 hours of tv to catch up with - going to be a late night !!!
