I find the whole facebook strategy fascinating as there are so many different opinions.

Me personally, I don't think the actual FB fan page actually achieves too much, likewise its Google counterpart. Most of the traffic we get comes from posts or links on peoples walls.

It's just yet another thing that will never get updated, like neglected blogs...

But having the like button on your site is powerful. We average about 600- 700 likes per month on our UK directory, so that maybe 700 exit points, but also means 700 people are advertising us on their walls.

Looking at our analytics, in the last 30 days, we had 1,697 visitors from Facebook, of which GA reports 82.26% as new visits.

So we get a lot more traffic from FB than we send. It may not be a huge amount of traffic compared to a search engine, but for the sake of having a line of code on your pages, it's worth it

I agree with your suggestion dear, it's a great idea for getting likes and specially traffic and your words is you get free advertisement of your website on 700 Walls its a great thing and it's totally free of cost..

I don't really think buying friends is going to work. In some ways, it may help. But let's just face it. It's a scheme and should definitely be avoided.

Traffic from social media sites will build up over time. But it would still take serious efforts along with search engine optimization.

Thanks,

Creating a strong network in the social networking websites takes some time. However benefits and incoming traffic can only be generated if the network is strong. For getting more traffic the social networking account must be updated regularly. In order to do this, you might add new blogs to your account, if people like it they will share it further and this is how the network will increase.

i prefer Twitter over Facebook, these days it seems a convention to follow the herd, and just create a facebook page ,
Unless you have a strong facebook strategy no point in creating a page,

Twitter is the way to go
