Do you reckon this is still the case with other Social Media sites now it has Google Plus? My guess it will be simply use it's own social network rather than rely on what are now direct competitors.

for the big G to exclude other results would be wrong on so many levels, for one G+ is not without its flaws but also you undoubtably would get more accurate figures over a cross section of networks than over one?

the fact that google is yet to actually build a sustainable social network would make me very reluctant to rely on my own results if I worked there!

Thinking about it, they signed a deal with twitter a while ago didn't they, so would make sense to include twitter as a social signal. But do you think Google will really use FB as a social signal for its algorithm, or would Bing who are in bed with FB, use Google +1 data?

I hope they do, as it will make all of our lives easier. Be great to get a better Google ranking because hundreds of people have FB "liked" a particular page, but not convinced..

Gone a bit of topic though, so is Twitter good for SEO, consensus is yes

Good point about connecting. Twitter is all about engagement and if you are engaging with others as well as posting relevant links then you will be more credible. The more credible, the more followers. The more followers hopefully the more traffic!

I started using twitter from a branding side, build up my name on there, chasing celebs etc. Then found that people actually chat on there, now am always on it, on the phone or via the web, the amount of work and quotes is crazy, I do everything you shouldn't do on it, I tweet personal stuff, I tweet friends, I have debates and sneak in offers and web links, but it works! Twitter is one of the thingyou have to hammer a bibefore anything comes from it.
But last wednesday I sat in a pub in Notts having a drink with Chesney Hawkes!

Stick with it, be a person, and connect with people, then it all falls into place!
